Budapešť 2017: Rišo vo finále a koniec “výletu” (Riso in the finals and the end of my “trip”)

In Budapest 2017,Worlds by Peter Sukenik / 1. august 2017 / 3 Comments

Yesterday, nothing special happened.

Andrea swam 50m breaststroke, I took a photo of her on the start but then she turned her back :-)

She’s quite tall, isn’t she? :-)

Včera sa neudialo nič extra zvláštne.

Aďa plávala 50m prsia, cvakol som ju na štarte, potom sa mi už otočila chrbtom :-)

Je poriadne vysoká, że? :-)

But something did happen… I got a present. Notebook cover from Nikon.

I’ve been looking for something like that for a while now, it’s used as a shield from the sun. It’s possible that someone saw me like this on the Spring Prix of Zilina :-)

Today, I’ve tried again shooting the individual medley from the podium for victory ceremony in dark blue.
Vyskúšal som si dnes opäť v tmavomodrom fotenie z “victory ceremony” pódia na polohovke.

However, I didn’t like it very much. So, I have been taking pictures of Riso from behind the starting blocks but today, I’ve been shooting them a bit askew.

Talking about the relay, that was a complete chaos. I didn’t want to be behind blocks again so I tried being on the side but that didn’t work too.

I tried to change the spot and tripped over a strap from the photographic objective. Fortunately, it didn’t fall but my camera started act weird; there were no numbers on the screen. I swore a bit but luckily, it started to work right after a while.

I wanted to take a pic of all girls from the relay together. They even got together quite nicely but in the last moment, photographers shooting the start of another relay came standing right in my shot and ruined it. This is the best I have…

I took a photo of them later but I had only about 5 seconds to shoot it and right away, I was told off that I’m not supposed to be taking pictures there. Mea culpa.
Mea culpa.

For the first time, I am going to the hotel during lunch today. I need to work on my photos from previous days. On my way, I get a message from Miro Nowak if I can upload a picture of Riso on Facebook since he made it to the finals. I’m in the underground and I don’t have any yet so later I work on few photos of Riso and upload them in special album on Facebook. But I’m not satisfied with them, today’s obviously not my day.

I’m leaving to the Arena at 3 PM. I have to mention as to not offend anyone that few underground trains are newer even equipped with a screen and from time to time announce in English too :-)

O tretej odchádzam nazad do arény.

For a late lunch, I’m having scones and coffee again :-)

Riso’s final heat is second on the program and for the first time, there is a Slovak flag on the screens. I’m taking photos of Riso, then other finals and I’m leaving before the last final heat finishes.

Voila :-) I guess it’s enough…

Fotím Riša, potom ostatné finále a ešte pred doplávaním poslednej finálovej disciplíny odchádzam.

Tadááá :-) už by toho aj stačilo…

I’m going to the hotel hoping that I can work on the photos from the morning women’s individual medley relay and from Riso’s finals so I can leave for the closing ceremony at 9 PM with a clear conscience.
However, I’m coming to the hotel after 8 PM which means I have only time for a shower, copying photos from finals to the disk, checking the route and I can leave…

Closing ceremony was really something, especially the beginning. What those people were showing was unbelievable. There were some speeches afterwards, then they handed over the mace to the organizer of the following Championships, presented the new place and finito.

To, čo tam tí ľudkovia predvádzali bolo neuveriteľné. Potom nejaké prejavy, odovzdanie žezla usporiadateľovi nasledujúci MS, prezentácia nového miesta a končíme.

I get on a tram and even take a picture of the luxury I have since I’m the only passenger but in no time I find out that I’m on the right line however with the wrong destination. Oh, damn it…

I get off and wait for another one losing about 45 minutes in the process.

I arrive at the hotel, I help myself to a beer and even though I would like to work a bit I’m too tired and go to sleep.
It’s 2 AM.

And it’s the final day…
I wake up at 6 AM, work on photos I wanted to do the previous day, have breakfast and pack myself. At 9 AM, there is a taxi waiting for me and I’m heading to the hotel where Slovak representation team was accommodated.

The ride in the taxi is quite adventurous. Until now, I thought that the orange light on the traffic lights means ‘speed up’ :-) today I’ve learnt that it means ‘speed up even third in the row’. The taxi driver is showing off his racing skills.

I wait for a while at the hotel and then with the crew we all get in the bus and head to Bratislava. There I change the vehicle to the car of our nice masseuse and we drive to Zilina straight through Brno :-) where I return the borrowed technique.

I’m really grateful, thanks to her I can be with my kids tonight.

The end of the show, goodbye :-)

Prichádzam na hotel, dávam si ešte pivko a hoci by som chcel ešte niečo urobiť, tak už nemám sily a idem spať.
Sú dve hodiny ráno.

No a je tu posledný deň…

Budapešť 2017: cvak, cvak, cvak, cvak (click, click, click, click)

In Budapest 2017,Worlds by Peter Sukenik / 29. júl 2017 / 0 Comments

It’s always the same for breakfast; the only thing that is changing are the guests. Italians have replaced Indians and the Japanese :-)

I’m getting on the train in the underground after the jingle and as I sit down I write a report from the previous day.
I usually manage to write it during the journey.

In the photographer’s room, I book positions for shooting by the pool but right away, I’m letting one of them to my colleague, who was left with none.
So Simona Baumrtova can have nice pics too :-)

I cannot tell one day from another anymore and even though I finally know the system, it’s basically still the same. And the creativity fades away :-(
Click, click, click and again click, click, click… :-)

Already in the first heat, there is a false start. Fellow doesn’t have a good day.

A kreativita ide do hája :-(
Cvak, cvak, cvak a zase cvak, cvak, cvak… :-)

Hneď prvá rozplavba a predčasný odskok. Chalan nemá dnes svoj deň.

Barbora swam 50m butterfly. I didn’t have much chance to shoot her in the water.
Fortunately, I asked her in advance if she could smile for me. And she did :-)
Baška plávala motýlik 50m. Moc šancí na foto z vody som teda nemal.
Ešte že som ju dopredu poprosil, aby skúsila vykúzliť úsmev. A podarilo sa :-)

Karolina, that’s a different story :-)
She is constantly hidden behind the flags :-) , but I took a nice pic of her on the start.

I found two other Slovaks in the audience.
Can you recognize them? :-)
V hľadisku som našiel dvoch ďalších našich.
Spozná ich niekto? :-)

I’ve got an invitation for the closing ceremony today.
I haven’t been on such an event yet but since I’m already here…
It takes place at night on Sunday.
Dnes mi prišla pozvánka na zatvárací ceremoniál.
Ešte som na takom nebol a keď už som tu…
Bude to v nedeľu v noci.

Lunch was delicious, especially some kind of creamy green pea soup, that was quite something.

During the break, there is a volunteer race taking place in the Arena. Nice :-)

During the finals, the atmosphere is amazing again…
Na finále atmosféra opäť výborná…

Sarah has even been petted :-) and I found a new view for shooting the medallists.

I even got to sing a bit. Russian anthem :-) even three times :-)
No a dokonca som si aj zaspieval. Ruskú hymnu :-) a dokonca trikrát :-)

The evening is a routine.
I post the report on the blog at 2 AM and hurry to bed :-)

In Budapest 2017,Worlds by Peter Sukenik / 29. júl 2017 / 3 Comments

I wake up in the morning later than I have hoped. I hurry into the Arena but still come only 10 minutes before it starts. An inspector have checked me in the metro and fortunately, a glance at my accreditation card was all he needed.

Today, Andrea is the only Slovak swimming. Where did her hand go? :-)

During the break, I can see that some colleagues are tired.
They sleep in the photographer’s room on the table and few even by the pool on their spots.

I get a tip from Miro Nowak to go shoot high diving and even though I’m not all for we head there with my colleague Sidorjak after lunch. We are taking a boat on the river Danube in front of the parliament, which adds unique background to the photos. The clouds make the dramatic atmosphere complete.
However, after a while, they are sending us away, it’s not the right day for shooting yet.

DSC_1415

The atmosphere in the campus is great.
When I compare it with Kazan where souvenirs were sold in around 10 stands, there are only two here.

They are already promoting World Championships 2019.
But I’m not sure whether I’ll go to Korea :-)
Propagujú sa už aj MS 2019.
No ale neviem, či pôjdem do Kórei :-)

I’m prepared for the finals, I’m shooting mainly winner’s emotions and sending…
Na finále som pripravený, fotím hlavne emócie víťazov a posielam…

Yuliya have wiped the floor with everybody today :-)
Júlia to dnes všetkým pekne natrela :-)

There are friends in the audience watching and we all say hi to Mirko at home :-)

In the evening, I have a beer at the hotel, work on few photos of Andrea and fall asleep.
I’m done.
Večer si dávam na hoteli pivo, robím zopár Adiných foto a zaspávam.
Som k.o.

Budapešť 2017: Konečne dobrý deň (finally a good day)

In Budapest 2017,Worlds by Peter Sukenik / 28. júl 2017 / 0 Comments

Ha, today, I finally heard Slovak. I met Andrea Podmanikova with the coach Vladimir Zeleznik by the pool. I was so happy I didn’t even take a photo of them even though I was holding the camera.

I tried to arrange my spot for Katka’s backstroke in the morning but the rules became one big mess. At the end, they let me only on my standard place. Damn it :-(

Sakra :-(

Today, Slovak mixed medley relay was swimming too.
I had a spot behind starting blocks, which is quite a good position to shoot all styles except the crawl

After the relay, our swimmers were supposed to pose for me. Andrea was my ‘insider’.
However, it did not work as I planned and on the top of it, one ‘professional’ stood perfectly in my view.
So, this is all I got…
No moc z toho pózovania nebolo a naviac mi jeden “profík” krásne zablokoval celý výhľad.
Tak len toto…

Well, how about the afternoon?

Today, I finally managed to send my photos to SwimSwam just few minutes after the end of every final heat. After the first one, only 10 minutes might have passed and already there was an article with my photo released. The shot was no miracle but I will work on that :-)

So, I’m proud. It was a good day today :-)

No a poobede?

In Budapest 2017,Worlds by Peter Sukenik / 26. júl 2017 / 0 Comments

I have to get on the first couch in the morning when I go to the Arena. And when I go back, I need to get on the last one. That way, I walk the shortest distance possible.

I also know the names of metro stations almost by heart and this jingle too :-)

Keď idem ráno do arény, treba nastúpiť do prvého vozňa. A keď idem nazad, tak do posledného. Vtedy sa nachodím najmenej.

Takisto už viem takmer naspamäť názvy staníc metra a túto zvučku :-)

It was quite cold in the morning and I took off only in a T-shirt and shorts. I guess I’ll enjoy it in the evening :-)

During the morning session, they were repairing a lane line. It can happen at World Championships too, not just back home in Slovakia :-)

I took a few shots of officials so I could contribute to the Facebook group of swimming officials.
But it needs to wait till I have more time.
Trochu som pofotil rozhodcov, nech prispejem do facebookovej skupiny plaveckých Officials.
Ale až keď bude trochu času.

Hmmmm, a world record in the morning? Indeed…
Hmmm, doobeda a svetový rekord? Áno…

Today, Marek Botik and Riso Nagy represented our country, Marek swam 50m and Riso 800m freestyle.

It’s a problem to even take a photo of Marek and a different problem to choose from hundred photos of Riso.

So, I took time with shots of Marek and send this photo to the daily photo competition :-)

Z našich dnes plávali Marek Botik a Rišo Nagy, Marek 50m a Rišo 800.

Other than that, Nikon quite surprised today, we celebrated its hundredth founding anniversary :-)
No a dnes prekvapil trošku Nikon a oslávili sme 100-té výročie založenia :-)

How about the afternoon? New champions and new world records :-)

I even bought presents to bring home already :-)

A poobede? Ďalší noví šampióni a nové sveťáky :-)

A ja už mám nakúpené darčeky domov :-)

Budapešť 2017: Júlia a jej zdvihnutý prst (Yuliya and her pointing finger)

In Budapest 2017,Worlds by Peter Sukenik / 26. júl 2017 / 0 Comments

What interesting has happened today?
Surprisingly, it was all about swimming again.

In the morning, there were Katka Listopadova and Andrea Podmanikova representing Slovakia in the pool. I think their photos turned out pretty good. I even changed my clothes because of Andrea :-) I changed a light blue bib for a dark blue bib so I could take photos of her swimming breaststroke from front.

I managed to work on morning photos, both Slovak ones and the ones for SwimSwam, during the break. Then it went much quicker at the hotel in the evening.

It went worse with the photos from finals, I didn’t handle that completely. However, the photo of Yuliya Efimova with the pointing finger after she missed the world record just by one hundredth of a second had success, as well as series of photos of Yui Ohashi finishing second after Katinka in 200 IM.

Others were celebrating too. Among them, Sarah Sjostrom and Adam Peaty celebrated both becoming World Champions and breaking Championship records.

I have to mention also the atmosphere in the Arena when Katinka finished. Home audience was cheering for all Hungarians but the noise after her finish was overwhelming.

What else?
I managed to stand in other photographer’s view twice :-), I had time for lunch even time for a pleasant chat and I finally bought a swim cap for my Maťko :-)
It’s nice and for a good price, 5100 HUF (about 17€) :-)

Originally, I wanted to take a few shots of EYOF, since my accreditation applies to that too. However, I decided not to. And I heard I did a right thing; they said it was quite a chaos over there.

So, that’s it for today. I hope that those guys looking like Indians who love to make a noise around 2 AM will soon come to senses…

A čo ešte?
Podarilo sa mi počas dňa vliezť dvakrát iným fotografom do záberu :-), stihol som obed a dokonca sa aj príjemne porozprával a kúpil som svojmu Maťkovi konečne čiapku :-)
Pekná a za “ľudovú cenu” cenu, 5100 HUF (asi 17€) :-)

No a pôvodne som chcel ísť včera pofotiť trochu aj EYOFku, kde mám akreditáciu tiež. Nakoniec som sa ale rozhodol, že nepôjdem. No a vraj som urobil dobre, vraj tam bol celkom chaos.

Budapešť 2017: makačka (tough day)

In Budapest 2017,Worlds by Peter Sukenik / 24. júl 2017 / 2 Comments

Today starts with a photo briefing at 8:00 AM and that means if breakfast starts at 7:00 I have only about five minutes to eat. I leave the hotel at 7:11, entering the underground at 7:16, the metro leaves at 7:21 and I am marking today’s ‘goals’ into the start list. I get off at 7:41, entering the Duna Arena at 7:51 and the photographs’ room at 7:55. I catch the briefing in time covered with sweat :-(

O 7,11 odchàdzam z hotela, 7,16 vchádzam do metra, 7,21 metro odchádza a ja si značím “ciele” dňa do štartovej listiny. O 7,41 vystupujem, 7,51 vchádzam do areálu Duna arény a 7,55 do foto roomy. Brífing stíham, akurát mi tečie po chrbte pot :-(

So, what are the rules for photographers? Quite strict. We have one common place for all of us by the pool, another smaller one just above it and also every spectator’s seat, if they don’t come. If they come, we have to let the seat. And since there is no way to get near the pool after the beginning of swimming it’s a huge risk. There is also one place for photographers from big agencies right opposite us. Shooting from the front is allowed for six agency photographers and two ‘ordinary’ photographers when swimmers from their countries are in the water. There is also no bag policy at the pool. Good old Kazan and London.

So, let’s begin. I need to find some spot; it starts in 30 minutes.
I only see Riso Nagy from all Slovak swimmers.

Jedno miesto majú ešte fotomani z veľkých agentúr oproti nám a fotiť z čela môže 6 agentúrnych a 2-ja “obyčajní” fotografi, ak im pláva akurát plavec z ich krajiny. Platí tiež “no bag policy”, žiadne batohy k bazénu. Zlatá Kazaň, zlatý Londýn.

Poďme na to, je 30 min. pred začiatkom, treba si nájsť miesto.
Z výpravy SVK vidím akurát Riša Nagya.

After the morning session, I hurry into the photographer’s room and sort photos. No time for lunch, water, coffee and some scones will do :-(

You have to catch a spot before the afternoon finals an hour before. So, despite having a lot to do I sit on my spot and chat with Martin Sidorjak.

And the finals? Except relays, Yang Sun with Katie Ledecky were no doubt in the spotlight today. Well, Yang a big time :-)
He gave a big hug to re-elected Maglione too :-)

A finále? Okrem štafiet dnes hviezdili Yang Sun a Katie Ledecky. No a Yang veru poriadne :-)
Vyobjímal aj znovuzvoleného Maglioneho :-)

Coming to the hotel at 9:00 PM. After a shower and a beer, I start to work.

I am finishing at 3:00 AM.
Is it just me or is there actually a lion? :-)

Budapešť 2017: skoky (diving)

In Budapest 2017,Worlds by Peter Sukenik / 23. júl 2017 / 3 Comments

Not much have happened today, so this small report will be quite brief :-)

After breakfast, I managed to explain to the receptionist that air conditioner should primarily serve for cooling and if it only blows, it’s not enough. They even found a new room for me. It’s smaller with the view over the yard but it’s cooler. So, the big moving began :-)

I worked on my photos from yesterday, posted my first report and went straight to the Arena. It was raining, hot and sticky weather…

In the Arena, I took photos of the pool during 3m diving so Mirko would see they let me inside :-)

Spracoval som zopár foto zo včera, postol prvý príspevok a hajde do arény.
Pršalo a bolo teplo a dusno..

I met Mike Lewis, a professional from the US and basically a colleague from SwimSwam.

Lunch… it’s nice of the organizer and not quite usual that all pressmen and photographers have beside common refreshment also a lunch and it’s on Duna boat.

Stretol som aj Mika Lewisa, profíka z U.S. a v podstate môjho kolegu zo SwimSwam.

Obed…

After the lunch, I wanted to head back but Tino lured me into shooting 10m diving.
So, I tried and I even sent two photos to daily competition for the photo of the day. Maybe no one will send any and I will be the winner :-)
Možno nikto nič nepošle a ja vyhrám :-)

Today, it was more or less a trial run. Tomorrow in the morning, there is a photo briefing and then it’s starting for real…
Dnes to bola viacmenej taká skúška, zajtra ma ráno čaká foto briefing a potom to bude už naostro…

I am writing this report on my way to the hotel and suddenly I hear ‘Népliget’, which is my cue to get off :-)
I managed to finish it :-)

See you tomorrow…

Stihol som to :-)

Ahojte zajtra…

Budapešť 2017: deň prvý (day one)

In Budapest 2017,Worlds by Peter Sukenik / 22. júl 2017 / 2 Comments

It’s 3:45 AM and I’m taking a taxi so I can take a train from Zilina to Bratislava and then next one to Budapest. At 10:35 AM, almost on time, the train comes to Keleti Pályaudvar station.

Je ráno 3,45 hod. a ja nastupujem do taxíka, aby som zo Žiliny išiel vlakom do Bratislavy a potom ďalším do Budapešti. O 10,35 takmer presne načas vlak pristáva na železničnej stanici Keleti Pályaudvar.

I am roaming around the station for about 20 minutes until I find out that the tram 24 has a stop only few metres from the station exit. I thought it would be a piece of cake however; Hungarian is obviously not for me. I tried saying ‘tram’ even ‘villamos’ to some lady but it did not work :-)

The tram is no miracle. Looking on the bright side, I met Katinka :-)
Električka žiadny komfort, ale cestou stretávam Katinku :-)

When I arrive at the hotel, I’m learning that I have to wait two hours before my room’s ready. Feeling ‘thrilled’ about it, I sit in the bar and try Soproni beer :-)

Finally, after two and half hour, I am checked in. The room is also no miracle but the internet is working flawlessly.

I am unpacking, building my workplace, plugging notebook, screen, turning it on and… The image on the screen is all damaged, the upper part is dark and the lower one is in chaos. I am finding out that the screen broke during the travel. Great :-(

Another ‘great’ news – I adjusted and turned the air conditioner on but it’s not working properly – no cold air. They sent a technician who claimed there isn’t anything he can do about it and the receptionist said the hotel’s full. Maybe tomorrow there will be a free room…
I wanted to leave the hotel at 1:00 PM according to plan however I am leaving at 4:45 PM.
I am taking the underground and I am hoping for some screens or announcements in English. There is neither. The line M3 that I am in looks quite old.

“Nadšený” sadám do baru a skúšam pivo Soproni :-)

Zapájam notebook, monitor, zapínam a…

After getting off, I see the first arrow marking the way to Duna Arena and other ones direct me safely to it.
And I can see it now :-)

I also see quite a lot of police officers, soldiers, even one armoured vehicle…

I am heading for the accreditation centre and getting my accreditation card. They ran out of lunch vouchers because one delegate from Togo asked many detailed questions so there was no time left for me.
I am passing the safety check and going through the entrance for media and then straight to the photographers’ room. I am obtaining a bib, a locker and I am listening to first instructions.
Mierim do akreditačného strediska a preberám si svoju akreditačku.

Preberám si fotovestu, skrinku a počúvam prvé inštrukcie.

Right afterwards, I am hastening off. I’m making pictures on my way to the computer shop.
Hneď potom sa ponáhľam preč. Robím cestou zopár foto, ale mierim do obchodu s počítačmi.

I buy a new screen :-(
Kupujem nový monitor :-(

With my accreditation card, I am moving around Budapest for free. I eat a hot-dog and buy a coke while returning to the hotel :-) I am leaving things there and going back to Duna Arena. I would love to try to do a few night shots…
Rád by som skúsil urobiť zopár nočných záberov…

Coming back to the hotel at 11:45 PM, where my room has sweet 27 degrees.
That’s just enough for the day.

Good night :-)

Londýn 2016: mesiac po (one month after)

In Europeans,London 2016 by Peter Sukenik / 25. jún 2016 / 1 Comment

At first, I thought that I would write few sentences in London every day just like in Kazan. However, in the end I am writing almost month after the European Championships :-( There was just too much to do during that week and after :-)

Every morning the swimming started at 10am but we had to be at the pool about an hour earlier. Before finals an hour and half was almost not enough. There were many people with cameras and if I did not catch a good spot at the beginning, it was too late later. Sometimes we were packed like sardines :-)

We had two spots for taking photos, first right behind the starter near the starting blocks and second in the opposite corner of the pool, on the turn.

Again, they used the system of colourful bibs, 3 colours equalling 3 allowed areas of movement. Dark green was for broadcasters, the people involved in television somehow. For example the cameraman by the pool. These people had the biggest privileges. Dark blue and light blue were colours for the real photographers. People with the dark blue bibs could (besides mentioned spots for photographing) move freely at the pool except for the side behind starting blocks. From there were starting all disciplines with the exception of 50m disciplines that ended on this side of the pool and in that case there was no ban. Light blue bibs meant the smallest ‘freedom’. We had two spots for taking photos and it was possible to move around the pool, too, but only with special yellow belt. In the morning, they gave us quite a lot of them but during the finals, we rotated with only two. We could use the belt just for one discipline then we had to return it. Without yellow belt, we had to stay within restricted areas.

Easy, right? :-)

And, of course besides these ‘colour’ rules we had to abide by the standard rules for instance not getting into officials way and things like that. However, I must admit that officials were very helpful and mostly we could talk to them so they did not stand in our shots :-)

After the end of the morning session I always got back to the hotel (except in one case) to work on my shots from morning. At first, I thought I could finish them before finals but that never happened :-) The finals were starting at 6pm and the end was usually about 8.30pm. I always got back to the hotel after 9pm. And that was the time for finishing the work on morning shots and working on photos from finals. I did not enjoy much sleep that week :-)

However, I had the satisfaction of seeing new articles from European Championships with my photos on SwimSwam.com and summersportsworld.sk as well as the reactions of members of SPF Facebook profile.

Because I am writing this almost month after the European Championships ended, I cannot keep a good track of what happened on which day. Nevertheless, I do remember a few interesting things :-)

It always surprised me how many taxis were queued up by the roadside and all of them without drivers. Hmm, they were sitting on the other side :-)

Grocery shops around the hotel were a bit weird. There was no baked goods no ham nor cheese or anything like that, everything packed. In addition, every night I had ‘healthy’ chicken burger, kebab or pizza, not the best choice :-) Besides the trip to the centre, I afforded a visit to the souvenir shop and enjoyed some ‘extra light meal’. Yummy, 12£ gone :-) But Stella in can cost 1£ and draft Guinness was 4£ :-)

Nikde žiadne pečivo, krájaná šunka, syry a podobne, všade len všetko balené. No a každý večer “zdravý” chicken burger, kebab alebo pizza?

I guess I had the best experience from travelling. I wrote one or two things about the tube so now I can mention something about typical red double-decker buses. Firstly, they were all red :-) However, the interesting thing was that normally the bus stopped, opened up the back door and people got off. Then according to the number of the people in the bus, the driver either opened or did not open the front door for people to get on. If the bus was full, he simply left. However, that was no tragedy because other bus came in no time. On the route I was taking, the interval between two buses was at any hour of the day 4-9 minutes. It happened more than once that right after one bus came another one going the same route. Ordinarily the drivers were black and you had to pay them for the ride electronically with contactless Oyster Card or as I did with contactless credit card. Inside of the bus there was a special area for luggage, also seats reserved for pregnant women, disabled persons, and the wheelchairs as well. I counted five cameras in every bus usually placed on the ceiling. In some vehicles, the video from cameras was directly projected on the screen. Buses did not stop at every stop you had to ring the driver. The stop buttons were placed on every stanchion. Stuff as LED panels that informed passengers about the next stop were necessity in every bus.

Once I met an inspector. He had some kind of device where you put your card (in my case the Slovak credit card) and he immediately knew if everything was all right.
And it was :-)

Bolo :-)

Nevertheless, one more thing from the tube… you can see even this in there…
Z metra ale predsa len ešte niečo… Aj toto sa v ňom dá vidieť…

One day it rained. I guess quite untypical for London that it rained so little in one week. Still I got wet pretty badly and from that day I started to call my horrible hotel a den :-) Besides every day washed clothes I had to dry also the wet ones. It turned out to be a bit of a problem :-(

One morning I walked to the Aquatics Centre from the bus stop with Katarina Listopadova. I got to know two Czech officials and photographer Andrea Staciolli, too. On European Championships, there was also Tino Henschel with whom I had talked already during ISM in Berlin.
Jedno ráno som si zo zastávky autobusu odkráčal cestu k Aquatics centru s Katkou Listopadovou. Zoznámil som sa tiež s dvomi českými rozhodcami a s fotografom Andreom Stacciolim. No a na ME bol aj Tino Henschel, s ktorým sme sa dali do reči ešte počas ISM v Berlíne.

There seem to be certain swimmers whom the audience like more than others. With the regard for the home swimmers that get the biggest applaud and cheering, I noticed that the audience paid more attention to Cameron van den Burgh in Kazan and in London to Sarah Sjoestroem. Maybe it was because of her cheerful personality. For example, Laszlo Cseh was also very popular.
Možno to bude jej veselou povahou.

Somehow, the week was over and suddenly it was Friday’s evening, the last day. I started to plan my journey home. Departure at 10.10? I should be at the airport 2 hours before, 2 hours to get there and leave a spare hour just for case. Wow, it seems that I have to leave from the hotel at 5.10. Ouch :-) I should walk in the dark in I think quite dangerous neighbourhood and get the tube. I was not sure about this plan. Therefore, I ordered a taxi to the hotel in the morning and got off at Stratford station.

I quickly managed to fulfil one of my resolution I stepped on the prime meridian :-)

No, nebolo mi všetko jedno.

As I walked into the station, I found out that there is some kind of trouble with my scheduled line. I took out my phone and removed that line from the lines for route scheduling. Within minutes, I moved a bit further and got on different line with the same destination, Heathrow airport. The tube was clean, well lit, with no worries about safety. There were two girls in the carriage with me. They still had a paper strip around their wrists, probably a ticket from some party :-)

I got to the airport ok. I did a self-checking and found out that it is not possible to print my plane ticket. I was supposed to contact the airline management. Houston, we have a problem! I was feeling my adrenaline going as an employee of the British airways was trying to explain to me that they sold more tickets than the number of seats in the plane and that he was going to solve the problem :-) In turn, I was explaining him that I wanted to take this plane because my journey did not end in Vienna. Eventually I sat before the desk for half an hour and then the employee informed me with a smile that everything was all right and I had the ticket. Even though the seat was in the last row before the toilets next to the aisle, the guy was a small hero for me at that time :-)

I moved further, bought some presents, boarded the plane and then safely landed in Vienna. I got on the bus to Bratislava and continued in traveling. In Bratislava, I got off on the same dirty, ‘sweet-smelling’ bus station Mlynske Nivy as few days before. I approached a taxi driver before the station and asked him how much would cost a ride to the main railway station. ’20€.’ I pointed out that it is a bit expansive and got a choice to take it or leave it. Hmm, I was already in Slovakia. I called a VB taxi and paid 3,90€.

I could not decide which station is more ‘beautiful’. The main railway station or the bus station Mlynske Nivy. I guess they can easily compete. I was looking forward to having lunch at the station but after I entered the station restaurant, I minimised it to one beer and as little time as possible. In the waiting room, I was estimating how long it would take someone to ask me something like ‘What’s up, buddy?’. After about five minutes, I heard: ‘How are we, boss?’ :-)

The last public means of transport of my return journey was the Regiojet train, the business class. My impression improved a bit. During the ride there was just one ‘restart’ of the locomotive and with a little delay, we got to Zilina. Taxi, tube, plane, bus, taxi again, train and finally my own car – is there anything left? :-)

No, myslím, že si nemajú čo vyčítať. :-)

Posledný verejný dopravný prostriedok spiatočnej cesty je vlak RegioJet, business trieda. Trošku sa mi dojem napráva, cestou len 1x “reštartujeme” rušeň a s malým oneskorením pristávame v Žiline. Taxík, metro, lietadlo, autobus, znova taxík, vlak a nakoniec vlastné auto – čo je ešte dnes v ponuke? :-)

During the return journey, I found out about the silver medal that Riso Nagy managed to win. I was glad to hear that but why did he have to wait until Sunday? :-) At least I sent one early photo for the article to SwimSwam, which they are already writing…
Počas spiatočnej cesty zisťujem, že Rišo Nagy zaplával striebro. Teším sa, no musel s tým čakať až do nedele?

What more to say?
Maybe the next year I will visit Budapest :-)
A čo povedať na záver?
Budúci rok Budapešť? :-)

Neverthless, I have to mention this – thanks to Riso and his silver medal my photos appeared for the first time in televison broadcasting. It was broadcasted on 7th of June 2016 on television channel TV JOJ in the proramme called ‘Noviny o 12:00′ in which you can see more than 7-minue long interview with him.

Thank you, Riso :-)
